Big Feelings & Emotional Regulation
When Feelings Take Over
Big emotions can be tough to navigate, especially when they seem to show up out of nowhere.
For some kids and teens, that might look like anger, meltdowns, frustration, shutting down, or feeling overwhelmed by even small challenges. For others, it might feel like emotions are constantly running the show.
The truth is, big feelings aren't bad. They just need the right tools, support, and practice.

Big feelings may look like...
- Frequent meltdowns or emotional outbursts
- Anger that feels hard to control
- Difficulty calming down after becoming upset
- Frustration with everyday challenges
- Emotional shutdowns or withdrawal
- Impulsive reactions
- Trouble handling disappointment
- Feeling overwhelmed by stress
- Anxiety that shows up as irritability or anger
- Struggles with coping at home, school, or with friends
